Close Waypoint Remover Litchi Mission Utilities Logo

A traced mission with close waypoints

This web application is used to remove waypoints from a Litchi mission or a Google Earth path that are too close together. Litchi's stated minimum 3-dimensional distance between adjacent waypoints is 2 feet (0.6 meters). However, it has been discovered that the Android version of Litchi may have a slightly larger minimum.

Removing close waypoints is often a necessary step in the light-painting process. This process includes the creation of a path outlining a shape where it is easy to specify waypoints that are really close together. This process of removing close waypoints should be done while the mission is still flat -- prior to rotating the mission into the vertical plane.

IMPORTANT: This utility is used as one of the first steps of the light painting process prior to rotating the mission into the vertical plane. As a result, it is assumed that all of the waypoints in this mission are at the same height so that the distance between them can be computed based soley from the longitude and latitude of each waypoint. If a difference in height is detected between two waypoints, it will be assumed that the mission has already been rotated into the vertical plane, in which case the calculations will be adjusted accordingly.
